Tres Dallas Is Tres Freakin Amazing. -or- Can You Believe Some Folks Think I’m Not Fancy Enough?

Dude. YUM.

On Thursday night Jonathan and I attended the Farm Shed Summer Cookout by Tres Dallas at the Dallas Farmers Market. It was easily one of the most fun events I’ve attended in a while AND the food was ridiculous. RIDICULOUS. (That means yum.)

Funny, nerdy, pop culture shirts from Radish Apparel.

I couldn’t wait to tell you guys about it. Check out this menu. I’ve been staring at it online for a week…

Tres Dallas are masters at putting together a fancy but accessible menu.

Truth be told, when I saw this menu I was equal parts ecstatic and terrified.

Who doesn’t love a deviled egg?

Nobody.

Fried green tomatoes?

Shut up and take my money.

But yeah, then there was also…

Antelope sausage?

You mean like Rudolph? Ok…heh heh… I’m a journalist, right? I can do this.

Smoked quail?

Well, I’ve done this “strictly chicken and turkey” thing pretty well for 30 years but who doesn’t love change? *hard swallows*

So here’s the thing. (This is what the thing is.)

I’m a meat’n pataytas kinda girl.

Hey, I’m just as impressed as the next guy when a really talented chef finds a way to make something like liver or brains or cow’s tongue even mildly appetizing.

Not that something like …cow’s TONGUE… doesn’t sound amazing.

I’m sure there are folks in this city who’ll swear that cow’s tongue is delicious and you aren’t a “real” food blogger if you don’t agree with them.

Be that as it may, I’m good over here with my Domino’s pizza and my ribeyes.

Okaythanksbyeeeee. 🙂

However, on this evening, I was a there as a guest of  Chef Chris Waltman and Chef Mike Kelly, therefore, out of respect for them, I decided to roll up my sleeves and dive into something different.

I’m really glad I did.

When I arrived at The Shed they had some good ol’ fashion Texas Radio playing and a gorgeous table set up smack in the middle of the pavilion.

We snagged a primo spot across from the two loveliest ladies at the table.

The fun vibe was strong.

Chef Mike greeted me (#himsocute) and I told him I was stepping way out of my comfort zone with some of the menu items and that I was super nervous. He laughed and assured me that everything was gonna be awesome and (thank you Jesus) it totally was.

In fact, the entire five-course, prix fixe menu was absolutely delicious.

The antelope sausage was amazing and didn’t taste odd to me at all. It was so good.

The quail was great as well, in fact, it reminded me a bit of a Thanksgiving turkey.

I know right?!

See? I got all freaked out for nuthin. (I tend to do that.)

My favorite bite was a tie between the Deckle Steak- the most tender cut of steak EVER and the Pimento Deviled Egg- I literally woke up the next morning craving another one.

Also they served my number one favorite veggie in the entire world, Fried Okra.

And get this, they tempura fried it. I’ve always used flour and cornmeal, I cant wait to start fryin’ okra this way at home, it was soooo good.

Farmshed Dinners by Tres Dallas are typically held on the last Thursday of the month in The Shed. (Although there’s a chance it may be moved indoors for the July and August dates because… Texas heat stroke.)

If you subscribe on their website, they will notify you of upcoming events. You can also have them handle your next swanky dinner party, wedding, festival or charity event- there’s nothing these amazing folks can’t do, including getting this old girl who’s TOTALLY set in her ways to eat Antelope.

I wanted to thank J.T. Lemley of Lemley Produce and Plant Farm for providing the fresh produce, for blessing the food before we ate and for honoring us “youngin’s” (his words) with his adorable presence.

I almost cried a bit listening to JT talk to us about how much he loves sharing his food with young people. What a super guy. We love him.

I must give a super special shout out to the guys from Noble Rey Brewing Company, they are by far the coolest buncha guys I’ve ever met at the farmers market. Jonathan and I had a great time getting to know them and hope to see them (and drink their beer) again real soon.

Noble Rey’s brews are the perfect match for this HOT AS HELL Texas summer we’re dealing with.
